LEEDS METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY
In July Donald Reeves was appointed Visiting Fellow at Leeds Metropolitan University. He will be teaching on Peace Building and Conflict Transformation and assisting in the establishing of the George Mitchell Centre for Conflict Resolution.
There is no funding for the Fellowship and the delay in starting work has been caused by the search for funds undertaken by Leeds University and the Soul of Europe.
However Donald Reeves will be giving a Public Inaugural Lecture. The date has yet to be set. Please check our website for further details.
All are welcome to attend. The Lecture is called Ending Conflict – Fantasy or Possibility. Reflections on Seven Years in the Balkans.
We are searching for a person or an organization who will endow the Fellowship. Would you be interested or able to consider this?
the white house – FROM HATRED TO A HANDSHAKE.
This is the story of our attempt at bringing Serbs and Muslims together to create a memorial at Omarska, a mine used as a concentration camp during the Bosnia War. Peter Pelz wrote the book and it will be published by ‘O’ Books in 2008.
REBUILDING COMMUNION – PAYING THE PRICE
Donald Reeves has written a contribution to a book of essays on the break up of the Anglican Communion. It will be published in time for the Lambeth Conference and every Bishop will receive a copy. The essay outlines the methods we used in Bosnia over seven years.
THE MONASTERIES PROJECT IN KOSOVO.
As you can see from the enclosed paper we have not left the Balkans. We hope you would be interested in supporting this work which is timely, difficult and hugely symbolic for both Serbs and Kosovo Albanians.
BISHOP JOHN AUSTIN
John Austin, former Bishop of Aston, died on August 17 th after a long illness. Donald Reeves first met John thirty five years ago. They were good friends and worked together on many activities. He was for a time the chairman of the Soul of Europe and until his death was a trustee of the Ferhadija Trust.
FREELANCE CONSULTANTS OR CHARITY?
We need to strengthen the structure in which the Soul of Europe functions; and we are considering the relationship between the Soul of Europe and the Ferhadija Trust, exploring a number of possibilities. We will certainly need to look for active trustees. We will write more about this on our website and keep you posted.
AUTOBIOGRAPHY.
Donald Reeves has been contracted by Continuum to write his autobiography, A Very Dangerous Man (Margaret Thatcher’s warning words to Enoch Powell as he was on his way to take part in an edition of Any Questions at St James’s Piccadilly in 1983).
